How Serverless changes the IT department

Paul Johnston

Serverless approaches to technology change the dynamics of teams and how they interact and therefore the types of characteristics sought. Is it less about 10x coders and more about understanding distributed architectures and automation? Is it about pragmatism and simplicity? What are the skills that we have dismissed as only relevant for certain scenarios that should be used within a serverless environment? How do you hire for this new approach? Is it about code challenges or more abstract problem solving?

Paul brings his unique perspective to answering these questions having been the CTO of one of the first truly serverless startups and also having worked at AWS as the Senior Developer Advocate for Serverless.

Required audience experience

This session is for Tech Leads and CTOs looking to understand how serverless is evolving cloud and the technical roles around it.

Objective of the talk

Attendees will come away with a greater understanding of how Serverless will change development practices and how roles will change in the coming few years.
